Regardless of whether you are lovers of two-wheel rides, long walks in nature or climbing rugged rocks, Istria and the Buzet area are as if made for lovers of active tourism, nature and excitement. If you are in Istria for the excitement on wheels, take a ride around stunning landscapes of the most famous Istrian cycling route – Parenzana.  Today the best known cycling, but also walking, route, Parenzana used to be the main railway link between Poreč on the Istrian coast and Trieste, cutting through the Istrian inland area. The old railway tunnels and overpasses run through untouched places, which certainly will not leave you indifferent. For cycling is an ideal way of discovering the hidden unsurpassable beauty of nature!

The Buzet area abounds also in a plethora of other cycling paths – from macadam trails, ideal for mountain rides, to perfect paths for road cycling. Small medieval towns on hilltops, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, are just some of this area’s cycling panoramas.

Apart from thrills on wheels, Buzet abounds in beautiful rocks, which everyone can enjoy – experienced climbers, but equally beginners and recreationalists. Sun-bathed all day long, climbing spots Sopot and Kompanja are perfect for free climbing in all seasons of the year. More demanding Sopot directions were given significant names – Pandora, after the planet Pandora’s fictitious, inaccessible terrain from the imaginative movie Avatar.

Although it sounds incredible, it is true. Water skiing is also possible on the Mirna River. Have a go at breathtaking stunts. If you are looking for a milder version of familiarising with the Mirna River, our recommendation would be kayaking as far as its mouth at Antenal, bike rides along the river bed, or simply walks along its entire length. A good idea for warm spring mornings!

Not enough adrenaline? Buzet is well known as an attractive adrenaline destination. Flyers across the Istrian sky will also feel at home there. Raspadalica, a take-off spot on a rock above Buzet is widely-famed among fliers and paragliders for the possibility of flying also in the winter months.

Should you choose mountaineering for your active holiday, our recommendation is the Seven Waterfalls Trail. An attractive trail which, in its greater part, passes through playful beds of the Mirna River and its tributaries is a real treat for lovers of intact nature. The trail starts beyond Buzet and, after 14 km, 7 waterfalls, small lakes, rapids and a 5-hour walk, it ends at the starting point – Buzet.

Go along the paths which hide fun – choose cycling, hiking, mountaineering or some other activity, free your energy and go through new experiences in the most beautiful natural environment of Istria!
